Christmas Trivia - Christmas Island

How did Christmas Island get its name?

Christmas Island is a 52-square mile island in the Indian Ocean, 300 miles south of Indonesia. It's name derives from the fact that it was discovered on Christmas Day in 1643.

Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters memorialized the island in the Christmas Carol, "Christmas Island," which asks "How'd'ja like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island?"

Christmas Island is mostly tropical rainforest. Today, 63% of the island is an Australian national park.
